Kathleen Erin Walsh è nata il 13 Ottobre del 1963 a San Jose, in California, dove in parte è cresciuta, prima di trasferirsi a Tucson, Arizona. Proprio nel teatro dell’Università dell’Arizona è iniziata la sua carriera da attrice per poi proseguire a Chicago, lavorando nel rinomato Piven Theatre Workshop e più tardi al Chicago Shakespeare Repertory. In seguito si è trasferita a New York, interpretando molti ruoli in produzioni off-Broadway. La sua prima importante apparizione televisiva avviene al “Drew Carey Show” dove interpreta Niki Fifer, la fidanzata di Drew, nonché una donna che combatte con il peso-forma. Nei primi anni Ottanta è stata una nota modella in Giappone, dove era quasi venerata per la sua notevole statura (1.78 m). La sua bellezza è spesso comparata a quella dell’icona francese Catherine Denevue. Ciò accade talmente spesso da spingere gli sceneggiatori di Grey’s Anatomy a scriverci sopra una battuta, recitata dal marito di una paziente incantato dal suo fascino. In “Sotto il sole della Toscana” ha incontrato, nei panni della sua fidanzata, la futura collega in Grey’s Anatomy Sandra Oh (dr.ssa Cristina Yang).
